Aaron Smull

Senior Software Engineer - Control Systems at Atom Computing

Aaron Smull has a diverse work experience, beginning with their current role as a Software Engineer at Atom Computing since 2022. Prior to this, they were a Data Scientist at OYO Vacation Homes from 2021 to 2019. During this time, they were also an Avionics Test Engineer at SpaceX from 2019 to 2017, where they developed software in Python for test automation, maintained a large software repository, and implemented visualization tools for test measurement data sets. Before this, they were a Graduate Student Researcher at the University of California, Berkeley from 2017 to 2014, where they led the design of an experimental platform for quantum control of ultracold molecules, created and implemented image and signal processing techniques, and published two research articles in high-impact physics journals. Additionally, from 2014 to 2016, they were a Course Instructor and Graduate Research Assistant at Colorado State University, where they developed highly parallel algorithms for the acceleration of electromagnetic scattering simulations, participated in the development of fast parallel direct solvers, and conducted stochastic modeling and analysis of parameter noise on computational solutions. Finally, they were a Research Intern at MIT Lincoln Laboratory in 2016, where they worked on software-based signal processing techniques for real-time target identification and tracking in phased-array radar systems, as well as statistical analysis, time-domain regression techniques, Kalman filtering, target detection, and hypothesis testing.

Aaron Smull completed their Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Colorado State University in 2017, after starting in 2011. Aaron then went on to pursue a Master of Arts in Physics from the University of California, Berkeley, which they completed in 2019.
