Derek Ball is an experienced entrepreneur and executive who has held various leadership roles throughout their career. Derek co-founded and served as CEO of atVenu, a company that developed software for managing live event merchandise. Under their leadership, atVenu became the industry standard platform for this purpose, with a client base that included artists, festivals, and music venues of varying sizes and prestige. Prior to that, Derek was the Vice President of Publisher Development at 33Across, where they played a transitional role following the acquisition of Tynt, a company they founded and served as CEO. At Tynt, Derek was responsible for providing product and market vision and promoting the company to customers, investors, and the media. Derek also briefly worked as an Entrepreneur In Residence at Calgary Technologies, where they advised early-stage tech companies on various aspects of their business. Derek's career also includes serving as General Manager of the Mobile Technologies Division at Avocent, following the acquisition of their company Sonic Mobility, which they co-founded and led as CEO. At Sonic Mobility, Derek oversaw the development and delivery of mobile software solutions for clients such as the US Army and Bank of America. Derek successfully raised capital for Sonic Mobility before it was acquired by Avocent. Prior to these ventures, Derek worked as the CTO of PreferSoft.
Derek Ball attended the University of Calgary from 1987 to 1991. During this time, they pursued a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a focus on Finance.
