John is the President of Mayo Clinic Platform. Prior to his appointment at Mayo Clinic, John held the role of Chief Information Officer for the Beth Israel Deaconess system, where he led technology implementation and operations for the organization’s clinical, financial, administrative, research, and educational areas. John is an International Healthcare Innovation Professor at Harvard Medical School. He previously served as Chief Information Officer at Harvard Medical School, Chair of the National Health Information Technology Standards Panel for the Bush administration, and Co-chair of the National Health Information Technology Standards Committee for the Obama administration.
John received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University, his Master of Science from Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and his Doctor of Medicine from University of California at San Francisco School of Medicine. He completed his residency in emergency medicine at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. John was named to the HIMSS list of “50 Most Influential Technologists of the Past 50 Years” and to CIO Magazine’s CIO Hall of Fame.
