Audit St Helena is the body that carries out financial and performance audits on behalf of the Chief Auditor.  Audit St Helena was formerly known as the Saint Helena Audit Service.

The Chief Auditor is the external auditor for St Helena and Ascension a statutory position established by the Constitution to audit and report upon the accounts of government and public bodies.  

The Chief Auditor is the director and accounting officer responsible for the professional leadership of the Audit St Helena.

Administratively, the Audit St Helena is hosted by the Government of St Helena, but (in accordance with section 111(3) of the Constitution) the Chief Auditor acts independently and is not subject to the direction or control of any person or authority.
