Catherine Tornabene

Catherine Tornabene currently serves as the Deputy General Counsel of Intellectual Property at Aurora Innovation, a position held since June 2017, where significant achievements include the establishment of an award-winning patent portfolio and the management of various intellectual property assets. Previous experience includes serving as IP Counsel at X, the moonshot factory, where Catherine handled a range of projects across sectors such as green energy and artificial intelligence, and as Patent Counsel at Google, managing foundational technologies in search and deep learning. Earlier roles include an associate position at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, LLP, and externships at the Federal District Court and California Court of Appeal. Catherine began a career in technology as a Senior Software Engineer at AOL Time Warner and Netscape. Educational credentials include a JD from the University of California, College of the Law, San Francisco, an MS in Computer Science from Stanford University, and a BA in Computer Science/History from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
