Sumit Kumar

Sumit Kumar is an experienced engineering professional specializing in motion planning and scene understanding for autonomous systems. Currently serving as Staff Tech Lead Manager at Aurora since January 2021, Sumit leads a team focused on developing and maintaining machine learning models that interpret environmental data for self-driving vehicles. Previously, Sumit worked as a Software Engineer at Aurora and as an Autonomy Engineer at Uber ATG, where expertise included long-term behavior prediction in dynamic environments. Academic foundations include a Master’s degree in Robotics from Carnegie Mellon University and a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Computer Science from IIT Kanpur. Sumit also held research and internship positions at prestigious institutions, contributing to projects aimed at enhancing robotic perception and motion planning techniques.
