Sander van Essen is an experienced naval architect currently serving as the Principal Naval Architect in the R&D Department at Austal since October 2007, where responsibilities include leading the development of zero-emission ferries and coordinating applied technology. Previous roles at Austal include Acting Manager of the R&D Department and Senior Naval Architect. Prior to Austal, Sander van Essen worked at Allseas from 2003 to August 2007, contributing as Project Naval Architect on the conversion of a bulk carrier into the pipelay vessel Audacia. Earlier experience includes a position as Project Engineer in the Offshore & Transport Department at Damen Shipyards Group and an internship at SOFEC, Inc. focusing on a study about FPSO Turret Slamming. Sander van Essen holds a Master of Science degree in Marine Technology & Naval Architecture from Delft University of Technology.
