Matt Backus

Matt Backus has a diverse range of work experience in the tax and legal field. Matt currently holds the position of Corporate Counsel at Authentix since June 2023. Prior to this, they worked at Celanese as the Director of Global Tax from June 2022 to June 2023 and as a Senior Manager of Global Tax from August 2020 to June 2022. Matt was also a Manager of Global Tax at OppenheimerFunds from June 2017 to February 2019. Before that, they worked at Western Union as a Senior Tax Specialist from July 2013 to June 2017, where they provided tax planning counsel and assisted with tax audits and controversy. Additionally, they briefly worked as a Tax Attorney at Flinders | Bandy Attorneys at Law from February 2013 to June 2013, where they assisted clients with tax planning and negotiation with the IRS.

Rogers College of Law as a Visiting Scholar in 2009-2010. Matt later pursued a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Taxation at the University of Denver - Sturm College of Law from 2010 to 2011.
