Daan Wynen

Daan Wynen is currently the AI Lead at Ava. Prior to this, they were a PhD student at UGA/Inria from October 2014 to September 2019, where they studied the unsupervised analysis of artistic styles in visual artworks. From September 2008 to August 2012, Wynen worked as a Student Assistant at Fraunhofer IML, where they were responsible for software development in C#/.net. This involved the full stack from database layout and ORM, writing tests, over UI design and implementation, the evaluation and implementation of different sampling methods, to distribution of computation via message bus, and deploying the resulting software on the customer's premise. The software being developed was an application for the optimization of cardboard box measures for large distributors. It used a genetic algorithm together with an in-house solution for bin packing and container loading to simulate the different solutions' efficiency.

Daan Wynen has a Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Mathematics from Université Grenoble Alpes, an Interval Analysis from Interval Analysis from ENSTA Bretagne, a Master of Science in Machine Learning from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from TU Dortmund University.
