AVAC: Global Advocacy for HIV Prevention
Jim Pickett is an experienced advocate and leader in the field of HIV prevention and health, currently serving as Senior Advisor at AVAC: Global Advocacy for HIV Prevention since April 2022. As Community Co-Principal Investigator for PrEP4Teens at Northwestern University since January 2020, Jim has played a pivotal role in developing a social marketing campaign focused on PrEP for HIV prevention, emphasizing the involvement of young people. Previously, Jim held the position of Senior Director of Prevention Advocacy and Gay Men's Health at AIDS Foundation Chicago for 17 years, specializing in new prevention technologies and community mobilization, and co-founding the International Rectal Microbicide Advocates. Earlier career experiences include serving as a Senior Consultant for the Chicago Department of Public Health and as Editor for Gab Magazine. Jim's educational background includes studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Marquette University.

AVAC works to accelerate the ethical development and global delivery of HIV prevention tools as part of a comprehensive and integrated response to the epidemic. Through education, policy analysis, advocacy and a network of global collaborations, we mobilize and support efforts to: * DELIVER proven HIV prevention tools for immediate impact. * DEMONSTRATE and roll out new HIV prevention options. * DEVELOP long-term solutions needed to end the epidemic.
