Brian Smith

Brian Smith currently serves as the Senior Government Relations Director at Avalara, a position held since January 2021. Prior experience includes serving as the Executive Leader of Government Relations at TTR, where responsibilities focused on simplifying tax decisions through technology and enhancing operational efficiency. Smith also held the role of Director at AT&T, overseeing indirect tax matters related to new technologies and developing automation strategies for tax decisions. At DIRECTV, Smith was instrumental in establishing the policies for the Indirect Tax Group, contributing to the company’s growth through mergers and acquisitions over 23 years. Earlier career experience includes financial management at Hughes Aircraft Company. Smith holds an MBA in International Business from Thunderbird School of Global Management and dual BA degrees in French and Business from Whitworth University and Concordia University.
