John O'Neil

As Avangrid’s Senior Vice President and Head of People & Organization, John leads all facets of People & Organization, including rewards, health and safety, labor relations, employee engagement, and employee relations. John was promoted to his role in October 2024 after serving as Vice President of HR Performance and Governance for nine years, during which time he has led and developed a number of functions including rewards, shared services, workforce analytics, health and wellbeing, and talent acquisition.

John has been with the Iberdrola Group for more than 25 years and began his Avangrid career as Executive Director of Human Resources Performance and Governance. In 2016, he led the HR integration of Iberdrola USA and UIL to form Avangrid.

John has wide-ranging experience both in the operational business and in the corporate areas of Iberdrola Group having spent the first 15 years of his career at Scottish Power in areas including Finance, Asset Investment Planning, and Head of Generation Services. John holds a master’s degree in business administration from Strathclyde Business School and successfully completed the Global Leadership Program in conjunction with IMD.
