Michael Gilbert

Michael Gilbert has a diverse work experience in the field of cybersecurity, spanning over different organizations and roles. Michael is currently working as a Senior Cyber Security Engineer at Avertium since May 2021. In this role, they serve as a Splunk Enterprise Security administrator, creating custom apps and technology add-ons for Splunk to provide users with dashboards and visualizations. Michael also works with Microsoft Cloud Application Security policies to monitor activity within the Azure tenant.

Prior to this, Michael worked as an IT Security contractor at Interstate Batteries starting from March 2017, where they conducted vulnerability scanning, established remediation plans, and served as a Splunk Enterprise administrator. Before that, they served as a Sr. Security Engineer at Specialized Security Services, Inc. in 2016.

Michael also has experience working in the United States Marine Corps, where they served as an Information Systems Security Manager from January 2012 to January 2016. In this role, they were responsible for ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of network and user devices, implementing information assurance controls on tactical networks, and enforcing the cybersecurity program.

Prior to their service in the Marine Corps, Michael worked as a Cyber Network Manager at 1st Battalion 3d Marines. In this role, they were responsible for the planning, installation, and management of network devices, servers, and workstations. Michael also advised the Battalion Commander on data connectivity plans and installations and managed and maintained significant communications equipment funding.

Michael Gilbert attended Arizona State University but did not specify the dates or degree obtained. Michael then pursued a Bachelor's Degree in Network Security and Cybersecurity from the University of Maryland Global Campus, completing their studies between 2016 and 2019. Prior to their university education, Michael graduated from Monterey High School in 2006 with a Diploma. Alongside their formal education, they obtained several certifications, including CompTIA Security (2008 edition) in December 2010, CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner ce in June 2015, and Certified Ethical Hacker v8 in February 2014.
