Toby Read

Toby Read currently serves as the Chief Underwriting Officer and Active Underwriter for AXIS Syndicate 1686 at AXIS Managing Agency Limited since July 2024. With a tenure at AXIS (AXIS Capital) beginning in September 2010, Toby has held multiple roles, including Head of Underwriting Governance and Head of International Professional Lines Product Group, overseeing professional lines such as Transaction Liability and D&O across Lloyds and Insurance Company platforms. In addition to underwriting, Toby co-founded Action for A-T in January 2012, serving as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the medical research charity dedicated to finding treatments for Ataxia-Telangiectasia, raising over £1 million to date. Previous professional experience includes positions as Senior Solicitor at Speechly Bircham LLP and Technology and Media Claims Underwriter at Hiscox, as well as a solicitor role at Nabarro LLP specializing in IP/IT litigation. Toby is an alumnus of The Leys School in Cambridge.
