Backstage Music is a leading artist-run organisation dedicated to nurturing a thriving creative ecosystem for innovative, uniquely Australian music-based art. Our mission is to empower artists, foster creative risk-taking, and build vibrant communities through a comprehensive approach that prioritises artistic excellence, diversity, and professional development.

Since 2016, we have actively provided a vital platform for local artists, presenting an annual concert series and commissioning new works. Our work is guided by five core strategic goals:

Artistic Excellence & Innovation: We commission new works, facilitate artistic collaborations, and explore alternative art-making models.

Diversity, Inclusion & Accessibility: We ensure equitable opportunities for artists and audiences from all backgrounds, actively implementing our Disability Inclusion and Access Plan and prioritizing collaborations with First Nations communities.

Career Development & Capacity Building: We offer hands-on professional skills training, mentorship, and networking opportunities, including a new internship program for early-career artists.

Community Engagement & Audience Development: We engage audiences beyond traditional formats, with innovative cross-genre projects.

Recent programs such as "Reflections of Home," "Limitless," and "TRACE" explored themes of home, regional engagement, and disability. We are committed to building long-term partnerships and a sustainable ecosystem for grassroots artists in Sydney.
