Greg Gage has an extensive work experience beginning in 1997. Greg started as an Advanced Developer at NCR, then became Technical Manager of the Kiosk Program in 1999. In 2002, they were President of Logic Ground, Inc., where they developed web applications for businesses. In 2003, they became a Post Doctoral Fellow and Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Michigan, researching decision making by recording neurons of rats as they choose actions to get food rewards. In 2014, they became an Adjunct Professor at Michigan State University, and in 2018, they became an Adjunct Professor at the University of Michigan. In 2009, Greg co-founded and became the CEO of Backyard Brains, an organization that develops open-source tools that allow amateurs and students to participate in neural discovery. Greg is an NIH-award winning neuroscientist with 9 popular TED Talks and dozens of peer-reviewed publications. Greg is also a Senior Fellow at TED and the recipient of the White House Champion of Change from Barack Obama award for their commitment to citizen science.
Greg Gage earned their BS in dual Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering from Michigan State University from 1989 to 1995. Greg then went on to obtain their MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of South Carolina from 1996 to 1999. Finally, Greg Gage earned their Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Michigan from 2003 to 2010.
