Lone is an expert on bacterial interactions and uses this to develop and apply novel antibacterial principles (compounds or living bacteria) to control pathogenic bacteria. Lone has published over 230 peer-reviewed articles.
Lone is leading a Center of Excellence in Center for Microbial Secondary Metabolites and Head of Section for Microbial and Chemical Ecology at Department of Biotechnology and Biomedicine. She received Tagea Brandt’s travel award in 2008 and the Villum-Kann Rasmussen Annual Award in 2016. She was a member of the Danish Research Council for Natural Sciences from 2013-2018, including chairing the council in 2015-2016. She is currently a member and vice chair of the board for the Independent Research Fund Denmark. She was decorated with the Order of the Dannebrog in 2018.
Lone has been a consultant for the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) (1985-1993) and has been as member of the International Commission on Microbiological Specifications for Foods (1998-2007).
