John Alexander has a background in Art History and has held various positions in prestigious museums and art institutions. From 1994 to 2006, he was an Associate Registrar at The Museum of Modern Art, followed by a role as an Exhibition Associate at Centre Pompidou. He then served as a Senior Manager of Exhibition and Collection Administration at The Morgan Library & Museum from 2006 to 2021. From April 2020 to July 2021, John worked as an Independent Consultant before taking on the role of Director of Collections and Exhibitions at Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive in July 2021. He pursued his education at Hunter College from 2002 to 2007 and The University of Texas at Austin from 1989 to 1994.

Each year BAMPFA presents more than twenty art exhibitions, 450 film programs, and dozens of performances, as well as lectures, symposia, and tours.
