Founded by CEO Barney O’Hare, BAR 1 Betting has fast become one of the nations’ favourite bookmakers. Barney’s roots are in the leisure industry in arcades where he developed a love for a flutter which led to a career in the industry, first with on course pitches at the racetracks this culminated in his very own bricks and mortar shop in Dundalk, Co.Louth which opened in 1995, which now houses BAR 1 Betting's Head Office. 

Over the past 25 years the family business has expanded, currently employing more than 350 dedicated staff across 58 shops in the Republic of Ireland, in Telebetting  and in its Head Office in Dundalk.  

BAR1betting.com launched in 2018 with BAR 1 Casino in 2025, leads the way in the Irish market with very competitive betting odds, markets and special offers. 

A lifelong horseracing and greyhound enthusiast, Barney is a very proud sponsor of several Irish events including the Hattons Grace Hurdle Day at Fairyhouse, the Leinster National at Naas, the National Hunt Race day at Navan, the Bellewstown Handicap Hurdle and the Greyhound Sprint Cup at Dundalk.
