Mathieu D’Hondt is an MD PhD and a hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgeon at AZ Groeninge Hospital in Belgium. They completed their studies in general medicine at the University of Leuven and completed a residency in general surgery, followed by fellowships in abdominal surgery and hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery. Since 2011, Mathieu has been a member of the surgical staff, performing over 1500 liver and pancreatic resections, emphasizing minimally invasive techniques. They are also a proctor for robotic hepatobiliary surgery and an author of more than 200 scientific papers, having defended their PhD on improving outcomes in hepatobiliary surgery in 2022. Currently, Mathieu serves on the Surgical Advisory Board at Barco and holds a consultant position in pancreatic surgery at AZ Maria Middelares.
