I’m Barrie J Davies, a Brighton-based street pop artist with an MA in Fine Art, which basically means I’ve spent years learning how to make organised chaos look like it belongs in a gallery.
My work mashes together street art, pop art, graffiti, cartoons, collage and urban culture until they either cooperate or start arguing on the canvas. It lives in that space between fine art seriousness and the kind of image that makes you stop, laugh, and then wonder why you stopped at all.

Each piece usually starts as a sensible idea before being hijacked by neon paint, impulsive decisions, and characters that look like they’ve escaped from a comic book via the wrong exit. They rarely arrive with explanations, and I’ve stopped demanding them.

I work across painting, screen printing, mixed media, collage and sculpture, layering textures and colours that probably shouldn’t share the same room. The results don’t sit quietly on walls. They turn up, take over, and behave like they own the place.

Humour runs through everything I make. I like work that makes you laugh first, then look again, then slightly question why you laughed at a fluorescent creature wearing a crown. The sillier it seems, the more likely there’s something sharper underneath it.

Brighton feeds all of this. It’s eccentric, loud, unpredictable and creatively overcaffeinated, which suits a practice built on contradiction and playful disruption.

My work has been collected by Noel Fielding and Fatboy Slim, and exhibited internationally, including at the Discerning Eye 2025. This has done nothing to calm it down.

My philosophy is simple: More Is More Is More. Life already has enough beige. Art should interrupt it, make you smile, lean in closer, and occasionally feel like it’s smiling back.

If you collect, curate, or just enjoy art with a bit of joyful chaos, welcome.
