William Gao is an accomplished individual with a strong background in both artificial intelligence and software engineering. Currently serving as an AI Research Scientist at HeyGen, William has worked extensively on emotion-conditioned gesture and facial expression generation. Previous experience includes roles as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the University of Waterloo, several software engineering positions at companies such as OMERS, The Co-operators, PointClickCare, and Relay, as well as a Research Assistant position at The Hospital for Sick Children. William is also recognized for significant contributions as a Machine Learning Engineer at Baseten, where re-engineering the Whisper model resulted in remarkable improvements in speed and cost efficiency. William Gao is pursuing a Bachelor of Computing and Financial Management at the University of Waterloo, expected to graduate in 2025.
