Basic Rights Queensland (BRQ) is a state-wide specialist community legal centre, providing free advice, advocacy, and legal services to people most in need in Queensland. We uphold and advance rights to social security, free from discrimination and justice in the workplace.

Social security, discrimination, and employment laws are vast and complex, which can create confusion and uncertainty. BRQ endeavours to cut through that complexity, helping people know where they stand and understand how to protect their rights.

Our lawyers, industrial officers, social workers, and professional staff work together to advocate for fair and just outcomes for Queenslanders.

BRQ is state-wide, telephone-based service, offering the same specialist services to all clients, whether they live in Brisbane or Boulia. 

Funded by Queensland Department of Justice and Attorney-General and Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department, BRQ has been operating for over forty years with the support of volunteers, sponsors, and pro-bono assistance.
