Batchfire Resources
Batchfire Resources is the owner of the Callide Mine in Central Queensland, an open-cut energy coal operation located 120km southwest of Gladstone and 20km northeast of the thriving regional township of Biloela. The mine has operated since 1944 producing low sulphur energy coal primarily for domestic power generation, alumina refining and international electricity generation. Under the ownership of Batchfire Resources since October 2016, the mine continues to meet the quality and performance benchmarks sought by its domestic and international customers. At Batchfire we place environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria at the heart of our day-to-day activities and long-term planning. The sustainability initiatives we have already committed to form part of a road map supporting our transitional energy business model moving beyond a pure energy coal operation towards our target of Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050. The Callide mining tenure extends across 16,000 hectares and contains an estimated coal resource of up to 1.07 billion tonnes. Conventional open cut mining methods are employed using two draglines, haul trucks and excavator fleets. Saleable coal production targets 11 million tonnes per year. Nearby, two lynchpins of the Queensland electricity supply system – CS Energy’s high-efficiency Callide B and C Power Stations – are the mine’s biggest customer. The Boundary Hill South and Trap Gully mining areas are the focus for maintaining a proud tradition of reliable coal supply, local employment and business opportunities. Batchfire Resources is committed to safely and responsibly developing the Callide Basin’s resources and supporting the local communities that the Callide Mine has partnered with for more than 75 years.
