Chris Needham is a highly experienced software engineer with a background in both web standards and embedded systems. Currently serving as a Principal Software Engineer at BBC since 2008, Chris represents the organization at W3C, co-chairs multiple working groups, and contributes to various projects related to internet media and web applications. In September 2024, Chris also took on the role of Director at W3C. Previously, Chris worked as a Software Design Engineer at Cardionetics Ltd, focusing on low-power embedded medical device software, and at Marine Acoustics Ltd, developing real-time DSP software for submarine sonar systems. Chris holds a 1st Class Honours degree in Electroacoustics from The University of Salford, earned from 1991 to 1995.
