Carlos Serrano is a seasoned economist with extensive experience in leadership roles within the financial sector. Currently serving as Chief Economist for Mexico at BBVA since January 2013, Carlos has previously held significant positions, including Executive Vicechairman for Regulatory Policy at the Comisión Nacional Bancaria y de Valores, where responsibilities encompassed regulatory oversight of the Mexican financial system and participation in key global committees. Prior to that, Carlos was First Vicepresident at Ambac, leading operations in Mexico, and worked as a Country Economist at The World Bank, focusing on economic advisory roles in Peru, Bolivia, and Ecuador. Carlos began the career as an Economist at the IMF and holds a PhD in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley.
