Michael Mercier

Michael Mercier has extensive work experience in the legal field. Michael currently holds the position of VP, Legal Affairs and Deputy General Counsel at BCI since April 2022. Prior to that, they worked at BCI from 2009 to 2022, first as a Director, Legal Affairs and later as a Legal Counsel. At BCI, they provided corporate and commercial legal services, managed a team, and was responsible for various legal matters such as negotiating agreements, advising on derivatives usage and compliance programs, leading legal projects, and dealing with external parties.

Before joining BCI, Michael worked at TransCanada from 2005 to 2009 as a Legal Counsel, where they oversaw legal matters for subsidiary companies, ensured regulatory compliance, and advised on corporate governance initiatives. Prior to that, they worked at Parlee McLaws LLP from 2001 to 2005 as a Lawyer in the Corporate and Securities practice groups, where they advised on securities transactions, corporate formations, and various legal agreements.

Michael Mercier received their Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) degree in Finance, General from The University of Lethbridge between 1993 and 1997. Michael then pursued a Doctor of Law (JD) degree at the University of Alberta from 1999 to 2001.
