Our research is your evidence.

At BehaviourWorks Australia, we unite leading behaviour change researchers and practitioners to develop behavioural solutions for social, environmental, and organisational challenges. As part of the Monash Sustainable Development Institute, our mission is to drive meaningful change through evidence-based strategies informed by behavioural science.

Who We Are:
Founded in 2011, BehaviourWorks Australia stands as the largest University-based applied behaviour change research unit in Australia. Despite our growth in size, project scope, partnerships, and networks, our core approach remains steadfast. We believe in the power of partnerships to blend rigorous research with valuable industry experience, creating powerful solutions to complex problems.

What We Do:
Our extensive portfolio spans hundreds of projects in collaboration with government, industry, philanthropy and community partners. Our expertise covers a wide range of areas, including:
➡️ Health
➡️ Climate change
➡️ Energy
➡️ Water
➡️ Waste
➡️ Pollution
➡️ Biodiversity
➡️ Biosecurity
➡️ Education
➡️ Social inclusion
➡️ Finance
➡️ Safety
➡️ Organisational change

Our Approach:
Persuading people is both an art and a science. At BehaviourWorks Australia, we hold that most problems can be addressed by influencing underlying behaviours. Leveraging insights from behavioural science, we help organisations avoid misguided assumptions and identify the most effective interventions.

Given the complexity of human behaviour, we employ PhD-qualified researchers from diverse disciplines. Many of our team members have experience in government and industry, making them well-versed in the systems and processes of both the public sector and business.
