Software Engineer at Benchprep

Michael B. has a long history of work experience. Michael began their career in 2010 as Service Department Manager at Working Bikes, where they managed repairs and inventory for a large non-profit bike project and hosted twice-weekly volunteer programs. In 2011, they worked as a Safe Routes Ambassador for the Active Transportation Alliance, developing curriculum and leading workshops on safe bicycling to elementary, middle and high school students in schools throughout Chicago. In 2012, they were General Manager of Ciclo Urbano, a part of West Town Bikes, a 501(c)(3) non-profit. During this time, they managed all aspects of inventory and purchasing, vendor relations and terms, customer relations and inquiries, marketing, advertising and social media, and hiring and training new staff. Michael also increased shop efficiency, reputation and yearly revenue (12 percent annually) while shifting gradually to a shop staffed entirely by graduates of WTB youth programs. In 2019, they began working as a Software Engineer at GK (GreenKey), where they worked on a small, agile team to design and build full stack applications utilizing modern Typescript, React, Node/Express, GoLang, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Docker, Redis. Michael also coordinated with the entire GK team (from Data Science to Engineering and Customer Success) to iterate on rapidly-evolving needs of high profile customers. Most recently, in 2021, they began working as a Software Engineer at BenchPrep.

Michael B. attended Fullstack Academy in 2018 and Miami University where they obtained a Bachelor of Philosophy in Interdisciplinary Studies, Journalism, Sociology, and Creative Writing.
