Science Lead, Reagent Selection at BenchSci

Cindy Law, PhD, has extensive work experience in the fields of scientific research and pharmaceutical development. Cindy currently serves as the Science Lead for Reagent Selection at BenchSci, a role they have held since February 2022. Prior to this, they held positions at BenchSci as a Senior Scientific Associate from December 2020 to February 2022 and as a Scientific Analyst from November 2019 to December 2020.

Before joining BenchSci, Cindy was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Terrence Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research from September 2015 to October 2017. During this time, they led and managed a project focused on identifying genetic drug sensitizers using CRISPR-Cas9 Knock-out screens. Cindy also conducted online meetings with a multinational pharmaceutical company and presented progress reports, budgets, and findings.

From May 2014 to April 2015, Cindy worked as a Research Assistant at York University. In this role, they demonstrated exceptional organizational and time management skills in handling scientific research and lab maintenance. Cindy also presented research results at conferences and provided mentorship to junior students.

Cindy's academic journey began at the University of Toronto, where they pursued a PhD in Muscle Differentiation from September 2006 to April 2014. As a PhD student, they led a research project on the role of histone modifications and variants in muscle differentiation. Cindy also designed and managed multiple research projects and actively stayed updated on current trends through journal scanning and conference participation.

Prior to their PhD studies, Cindy worked as a Thesis Student at the University of Waterloo from September 2005 to April 2006, gaining experience in a research-oriented environment. Cindy also served as a Summer Intern at Princess Margaret Hospital from January 2005 to August 2005, where they conducted research on DNA damage markers and cancer biology.

Early in their career, Cindy worked as a Research Assistant at Syn-X Pharma Inc. in 2004, where they gained knowledge of SOPs and good manufacturing practices. Cindy also worked as a Research Assistant at Cytochroma Inc. in 2003, where they participated in preclinical drug testing and became familiar with the drug discovery process.

Cindy Law, PhD, attained their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Medical Biophysics, Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Toronto, where they studied from 2006 to 2014. Prior to that, they pursued their Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Computational Science with a specialization in Biochemistry from the University of Waterloo, from 2001 to 2006.
