Alex Sim serves as the Interim Group Leader and senior computing engineer at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory since July 2013, where responsibilities encompass research and development in scientific data management, data analysis, data mining, machine learning, high performance computing, and cloud computing, among others. Previous experience includes a role as a computer science engineer at Berkeley Lab from 1997 to July 2013, as well as consulting roles at Verifia, Inc. and technical contributions as co-founder of IVision Corp. and AI Software Engineer at Stottler Henke Associates. Alex holds a BA in Applied Math and Statistics and an MA in Statistics from the University of California, Berkeley, along with an MS in Computer Science from San Francisco State University. Current research interests focus on online anomaly detection, deep learning, IO optimization for exascale HPC applications, and autonomic scientific data infrastructure.
