Andy Herring is a distinguished academic and consultant in the field of chemical and biological engineering, currently serving as Vice Provost for Strategic Initiatives and Professor at the Colorado School of Mines since January 1995. Herring's research focuses on polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell components and systems, renewable energy, thermochemical conversion, catalysis, and photoconversion. In addition, Herring has been an affiliate at Berkeley Lab since August 2014, collaborating with the Weber group and the Joint Center for Artificial Photosynthesis (JCAP) on advanced energy projects. As the owner of Collaborative Energy Solutions, Herring provides expertise in energy and environmental consulting. Previous experience includes postdoctoral fellowships at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, specializing in electrochemical carbon dioxide reduction, and at Caltech, focusing on partial oxidation of methane. Herring earned both a BSc and PhD in Chemistry from the University of Leeds between 1982 and 1988.
