Daniel Paley

Research Scientist

Daniel Paley is a Research Scientist and Project Scientist at Berkeley Lab since July 2020, specializing in software development for serial diffraction and the integration of X-ray free electron lasers (XFELs) in chemical crystallography. Prior to this role, Daniel served as a Research Scientist at Columbia University from 2015 to July 2020, where contributions included developing methods for X-ray structure refinement and involvement in the Computational Crystallography Toolbox (cctbx). Additionally, Daniel held the position of Laboratory Director for the Shared Materials Characterization Laboratory at the Columbia Nano Initiative, overseeing diffraction, spectroscopy, and microscopy facilities for materials science. Daniel earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Materials Chemistry from Columbia University and a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from the University of Virginia.
