David Blum

Computational Research Scientist/engineer

David Blum is a highly qualified Computational Research Scientist/Engineer and Principal Scientific Engineering Associate at Berkeley Lab, with a focus on developing computational tools for optimized building design and operation since May 2016. Prior experience includes serving as a Graduate Student Research Assistant at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Building Technology Lab, where metrics for thermal storage technologies were developed under the guidance of Professor Leslie K. Norford. David also worked as a Graduate Student Teaching Assistant in Energy in Building Design, providing software tutorials and grading assignments. Earlier roles include an Undergraduate Research Assistant at Penn State University, where control hardware for UVGI batch reactors was specified and implemented, and a Mechanical Engineering Intern at EwingCole, involved in HVAC design for construction projects. David holds a Ph.D. and an M.S. in Building Technology from MIT, as well as a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering from Penn State University.
