Nicolas Smith is currently a Staff Scientist at Berkeley Lab, specializing in optical metrology within the Advanced Light Source Photon Science Development. Previously, they worked at Google as a Waveguide Scientist and Imaging Scientist from 2021 to 2024. Prior to that, they served as a Senior Imaging Systems Engineer at Planet from 2017 to 2021 and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Caltech from 2012 to 2015. Nicolas earned a PhD in Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2012 and a BS in Physics from California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo in 2006.
