Steven Cliff

Steven Cliff currently serves as the Executive Officer at the California Air Resources Board since September 2022. With a long-standing career at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory as a Beamline Scientist since 2001, Steven has also held significant roles within the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration where responsibilities included Administrator, Deputy Administrator, and Senior Advisor from February 2021 to September 2022. Prior to this, Steven contributed to the California Air Resources Board from 2016 to 2021 as Deputy Executive Officer and Senior Advisor to the Chair, and had earlier experience with Caltrans as Assistant Director of Sustainability. Steven’s expertise in climate programs is underscored by previous positions at the California Air Resources Board, including Assistant Division Chief for the Climate Program. Educational background includes a Ph.D. and B.S. in Chemistry from UC San Diego.
