Therese Leone

Chief Lab Counsel at Berkeley Lab

Therese Leone is the Chief Lab Counsel at Berkeley Lab. Therese has been in this position since June 2021.

Previously, they were the Deputy Campus Counsel/ Associate Campus Counsel at UC Berkeley from September 2012 to June 2021. In this role, they advised Chancellor, Vice Chancellors, Deans, Chairs, Directors and other administrators on a broad range of higher education legal issues, including labor and employment matters, whistleblower, internal audit and other complex investigations, staff and academic policies and discipline, student affairs issues, research misconduct, general contractual and procurement matters, workplace violence prevention and intervention, charitable giving/fundraising issues, Title IX, Clery, VAWA, disability and CANRA compliance. Therese also assisted in leading the campus COVID-19 pandemic response.

Before UC Berkeley, Leone was the Vice President & General Counsel at Mills College from January 2008 to August 2012.

Therese Leone attended Northwestern University where they studied Sociology & African American Studies and received their Bachelor’s Degree. Therese then attended the University of California, Berkeley - School of Law where they obtained their Juris Doctor.

Therese Leone reports to Michael Witherell, Director. Therese Leone works with Margaret Dick - Chief of Staff, John Elliott - Chief Sustainability Officer, and Minh Huebner - CFO.
