Thomas Young

Postdoctoral Researcher

Thomas Young is a Postdoctoral Researcher at Berkeley Lab since August 2021, previously serving as a Postdoctoral and Graduate Student Researcher in the Paul Weiss Group at UCLA from July 2013 to June 2021. Thomas's doctoral research focused on the interaction of microorganisms with solid surfaces, specifically examining microbial attachment to electrodes and the conductivity of microbial biofilms. Prior experience includes a Teaching Assistant position and Undergraduate Researcher in Gojko Lalic's group at the University of Washington, where Thomas synthesized ligands for metal complexes. Additionally, Thomas interned at Seattle Genetics in 2011 and 2012, contributing to the development of drug-antibody linkers and synthesizing monomers for antibody-drug conjugates. Thomas holds a PhD in Chemistry from UCLA and a B.S. in Chemistry and Biochemistry from the University of Washington, complemented by coursework at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
