Trent Northen

Deputy Division Director at Berkeley Lab

Trent Northen is an experienced scientist and leader in the field of metabolomics, currently serving as Deputy Division Director and Staff Scientist at Berkeley Lab since 2008. Northen has held various prominent positions including Interim Division Director for Environmental Genomics and Systems Biology, Biotechnology Director for ENIGMA SFA, and Metabolomics Lead at the Joint Genome Institute. In addition, Northen serves as a Scientific Advisor at Brightseed and as Senior Scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Northen also holds the title of Program Head in Metabolomics at the Joint Genome Institute and has previously worked as a post-doctoral researcher at The Scripps Research Institute. Early career experience includes a collaboration with Sapphire Energy in metabolomics and a role as a Chemical Engineer at The Clorox Company. Academic credentials include a PhD in Chemistry and Biochemistry from Arizona State University, a post-doctoral fellowship in Mass Spectrometry from Scripps Research, and a BS in Chemical Engineering from UC Santa Barbara.
