Matt McFadden has over 25 years of professional experience in the fields of digital forensics, law enforcement, and training. Matt began their career in 1992 as a Whitewater Rafting Guide for Sierra Western Adventure Trips, where they were a Certified Swiftwater Rescue Technician I through Rescue 3 International. In 1996, they joined the Clovis Police Department as a Patrol Officer, and over the course of their 13-year tenure, held several positions including Field Training Officer, Detective, Police Corporal, and Police Sergeant. During this time, they were a member and supervisor of the High Technology Crime Team and Digital Forensics, and provided expert computer forensics testimony in state and federal courts.
In 2004, Matt McFadden joined Guidance Software as Director of Training, where they instructed basic through expert level digital forensic, incident response, and enterprise endpoint investigation courses worldwide, developed the Host Intrusion Methodology and Investigations course, wrote the Foundation in Digital Forensics course, and managed the curriculum development team. Matt also created the Certified Forensic Security Responder incident response certification and directed global training operations.
In 2017, Matt McFadden became Director of Global Training at OpenText, and in 2018 they were appointed Director of Training - Global at BlackBag Technologies, where they directed the computer forensic training team, managed course development projects, facilitated administrative projects, supported certification programs, and trained outreach. Matt also instructed macOS and Windows forensic investigation courses, developed the Windows Forensic Investigations course, and deployed live online training capabilities through virtual macOS infrastructure.
Most recently, Matt McFadden took on the role of Curriculum Manager at Berla Corporation in 2021.
Matt McFadden completed a Technical Management Program at the University of California, Los Angeles in 2015. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science in Criminology from California State University, Fresno between 1991 and 1998. Matt also obtained a Diploma from Hoover High School between 1988 and 1991. In addition to their educational history, Matt has obtained numerous certifications, including a Certified Vehicle System Forensic Examiner and a Certified Vehicle System Forensic Technician from Berla Corporation in 2021, a Certified Forensic Security Responder - CFSR from Guidance Software in 2016, an EnCase Certified Examiner - EnCE from Guidance Software in 2004, a Certified Forensic Computer Examiner - CFCE from International Association of Computer Investigative Specialists in 2002, a Certified Computer Forensic Technician - Advanced from High Technology Crime Network in 2002, a Swiftwater Rescue Technician I from Rescue 3 International in 1993, and a Certified BlackLight Examiner from BlackBag Technologies in 2020.
