Better Funding is a collaborative initiative reimagining philanthropy through equity, accountability, and grassroots leadership. We challenge top-down, traditional funding models and champion a diverse ecosystem of approaches - from participatory and trust-based practices to restorative and relational strategies - all rooted in community wisdom and designed to foster long-term sustainability.

We believe that values-aligned, reciprocal relationships between funders and grassroots leaders are essential to meaningful change. That’s why we offer practical tools, co-created knowledge, and a vibrant community of practice to support funders and organizations ready to do things differently.

Better Funding brings together the experiences of community leaders, grantmakers, practitioners, and aligned funders to spotlight better funding practices that shift power and resources toward those closest to the work.

We share lessons from the field,  including our work on equitable funding models and grantee-led initiatives - offering funders actionable guidance and grassroots groups a safe, supportive space to share their realities and shape the conversation.
