Before becoming a college coach, James spent a year as a fellow at the non-profit DonorsChoose. During his time there, he worked on the partner management team to help fulfill any partners' needs. He also worked on the marketing team where he helped teachers from across the world learn about new opportunities that DonorsChoose and their partners had to offer. He earned his bachelor’s degree in quantitative social science and minored in afro-african american studies from Dartmouth College in Spring 2020. Although he dealt with much adversity, with the help of mentors on and off campus he persevered through it. Reflecting on his struggles and working at different education non-profit companies influenced him to become a college coach.
