Sector Lead, Soil Carbon and Agriculture

Melissa Motew is a sustainability scientist specializing in climate change impacts and mitigation, with a focus on developing high-integrity quantification systems to support agricultural carbon markets. Currently, Melissa serves as the Sector Lead for Soil Carbon and Agriculture at BeZero Carbon and has held previous positions as a Senior and Staff Sustainability Scientist at Indigo. Between 2009 and 2017, Melissa worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where they developed a watershed modeling framework to simulate ecosystem services. Melissa also worked at The Nature Conservancy and the USDA Agricultural Research Service, and they conducted research at MIT Lincoln Laboratory from 2003 to 2009, specializing in systems modeling and high-technology sensor systems. They earned a PhD in Environment and Resources from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
