Fernando Villegas

Fernando Villegas is currently the Geotechnics Practice Lead at BHP Chile, where they advise on geotechnical open pit aspects of the BHP assets in the region. Previously, they served as the Geotechnical Director at Codelco Chile, guiding geomechanics for multiple mines, and held the position of Construction Director at CODELCO, leading contracts for the Chuquicamata Underground Mine. Fernando also worked as the Geotechnics Corporative Manager at Glencore, overseeing geotechnical management for various mining operations. They earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Mining & Earth Systems from the Colorado School of Mines in 2014.
