Geoff Capes

Geoff Capes is an accomplished engineering professional with extensive experience in resource engineering and mine planning. Currently serving as the Manager of Resource Engineering at BHP since September 2024, Geoff previously held the position of Manager Mine Planning at BHP Minerals Australia - Olympic Dam from November 2018 to September 2024, and Manager Project Engineering at BHP Minerals America - Potash from June 2017 to November 2018, where notable work included leading shaft sinking operations for the innovative Jansen Project. Earlier roles include Principal Geotechnical Planning at BHP Minerals America and Planning Manager at Newcrest Mining, where expertise was developed in sustainable planning, geotechnical design, and hazard management. Geoff's engineering foundation is supported by a Doctor of Philosophy in Civil and Geological Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan, earned between 2002 and 2009.
