Prashanth Athipar is a seasoned maritime professional with extensive experience in various leadership roles. Currently serving at BHP since April 2018, Athipar focuses on maritime safety, supply chain excellence, and ocean freight sustainability. Prior to BHP, Athipar held significant positions at the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, including Head of Marine Environment, Salvage and Intervention, and Principal Qualification Officer. With a strong foundation in maritime operations, Athipar has also worked as a Merchant Navy Captain at NITC Tankers and held senior ranks at Reederei “Nord” Klaus E.Oldendorff. Athipar's educational credentials include a Master's Degree in International Law from The Australian National University and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice, alongside qualifications in project management and nautical science.
