Rochelle Smith is an experienced professional in environmental management and sustainability, currently serving as Principal Improvement & Assurance in Group Sustainability & Social Value at BHP since May 2021. Prior roles include Environmental Lead at ConocoPhillips/Santos/Karara Mining, Non Executive Director at Kimberley Ports Authority, and Principal Research Consultant for Oil and Gas at CSIRO. Smith's expertise was further developed during a tenure as Environment Manager at BP Developments Australia and as Lead Environmental Specialist at BHP Billiton. Earlier experience includes Senior Environmental Advisor at the WA Department of Mines and Petroleum and Environmental Officer at the WA Department of Environmental Protection. Educational qualifications include a BSc and Honours in Biology as well as a Masters in Environmental Science from Murdoch University, complemented by a Graduate Company Directors Course from the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
