Steve Smith

Steve Smith is an accomplished legal professional with extensive experience in employee relations and legal advisory roles. Currently serving as the Group Employee Relations Officer at BHP since October 2015, Steve has also held key positions such as Vice President Legal at Herbert Smith Freehills, where co-led the Employment, Pensions, and Incentives Practice in Asia. Prior experience includes a senior associate role at Blake, Dawson Waldron (now Ashurst) and various positions at Linklaters, including Head of EPI Practice for Asia. Steve began a legal career in the Royal Australian Navy, where roles included Assistant Defence Force Advocate and Assistant Director of Naval Legal Services. Academic credentials include a Master of Legal Practice, Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice, and a Bachelor of Laws, all obtained from Queensland University of Technology, along with attendance at Brisbane Grammar School.
