Robert Hughes

Robert leads our biochemistry efforts, including laboratory development and testing of biologics to influence aging-related pathways. Robert completed a Ph.D. in Biology at Yale University, where he studied the structural biophysics and enzymology of protein-nucleic acid interactions. While on fellowships at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at University of Washington, he studied protein structure using NMR spectroscopy in the Department of Biochemistry and the genetics and protein network biology of yeast in the Department of Genome Sciences. He then transitioned to industry, where he served as Director of Therapeutic Biology at Prolexys Pharmaceuticals. Prior to joining BIOAGE, Robert was an Associate Professor at the Buck Institute for Research on Aging, where he directed a research program focused on neurodegeneration, the basic biology of aging, and protein homeostasis.
