Steve Springmeyer

Dr. Springmeyer is a board-certified Pulmonary & Critical Care physician. He was in direct patient care for 29 years starting as an Honors Medicine Student at the University of Utah. He finished his training and joined the faculty at the University of Washington. He founded the Pulmonary Section at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and was Clinical Professor of Medicine until 2019. Virginia Mason Medical Center was next, where he co-developed programs in Lung Volume Reduction Surgery and Thoracic Oncology. He continued clinical research and was rose to President and Director of Clinical Research at the VM Research Center.

He has over 19 years’ experience in the medical device/biotech industry. Steve joined Biodesix with the acquisition of Integrated Diagnostics in 2018 where he was the CMO. Previously he was with Spiration/Olympus since 2001 where he was a key participant in the development and clinical research for the Spiration Valve. He was pivotal in obtaining an FDA HUD approval for bronchial valve treatment of prolonged air leaks. After initiation of the two clinical trials the lead to FDA approval of the valve for emphysema, he moved back to development of instrumentation for diagnosis of lung nodules and lung cancer.

Dr. Springmeyer has held many professional membership and leadership positions including the American Thoracic Society; Board Member and Chair of Council of Chapter Representatives, Washington Thoracic Society; President and Board Member, American College of Chest Physician; Fellow, and the American Association of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology. He has published extensively and been an invited speaker at innumerable national and international venues. His research interests have included diagnostic and therapeutic uses of fiberoptic bronchoscopy and bronchoalveolar lavage, treatment of severe emphysema, and early diagnosis of pulmonary nodules and lung cancer.
